Thoughts after Episode III
Tuesday, May 31st, 2005It’s been said over and over that Star Wars is a space opera and I’ll go along with that whole heartedly. In fact, I wonder if it would benefit by embracing that more so. Here’s the idea, take out all the dialog and replace it with people who are over acting in Italian (it is melodrama) rather than under acting in english.. In really good opera, you should be able to get a sense of whats going on just from the actors physical actions and the tones of their voice so this should be sufficient. Plus we wouldn’t have to listen on Lucas’ soul crushing dialog.
That’s pretty much it. When Mace Windu is fighting Plapatine we don’t have to hear Anakin emote “I need him” like a robot in order to figure out what is going on. Having him scream “Lo ho bisogno di” while keeping his anguished visage should be sufficient.
Alternatively, can I use that fancy DVD player that’s supposed to chop out nudity and violence (so Pulp Fiction is safe for the kids) to chop out any moment where Anakin or Padme open their mouth? I think I would like the movie more then. Granted it would make Palpatine’s conversations a little one sided, but I think I can live with that.
Smart Eating
Friday, May 6th, 2005This one goes out to all my hommies on the East Side.
Five or so Blue Diamond Smokehouse Almonds (on sale at your local Walgreens) will make a delicious sort of snack. With each almond offering a subtle hint of the smoky flavor the packaging suggests. But woe be unto the compulsive eater who, with a tin of them on his desk, eats and eats and eats maybe 20 or 30 more.
With each new almond the once “subtle hint” of smokiness turns to a raging cacophony of smokiness. Soon the inside of your mouth is like unto the sodden smoky remains of a burnt out building on a rainy day.
This, my hommies, is not deliciousness. Not at all.
Thankfully somebody bailed me out with the $$$ to get me a Pepsi. And thank god for that…
Speaker’s
Wednesday, May 4th, 2005Man what I wouldn’t give to be able to use speakers at work.
Now I hate the drone of office noise as much as the next person. The white noise generators going at full tilt, murming conversations and a few hundred PC’s all crammed into a few thousand square feet. But I also hate being completely cut off from everything that’s going on around me. I imagine some people like being place in a sort of cocoon, just the screen and music and nothing else. But I hate that, I hate the feeling of pumping noise into my ears just to replace what else is going on.
I don’t want to eradicate the noises that are going on around me, I just want to dress them up a bit.
Also, being sneaked up on because you can’t hear sucks…
